Everything couples usually ask before booking from engagement sessions and first looks to timelines, sneak peeks, galleries, and what to expect when working together.
Planning a wedding comes with so many questions, and that is completely normal. Over the years, I have found that many couples ask similar things during our first call from whether to do a first look, to the best light for portraits, to how many images they can expect in their final gallery.
This page is here to make the process feel easy, clear, and stress-free.
Frequently Asked Questions
1.Before Booking
-
Most couples book anywhere from 6 to 18 months in advance, especially for popular dates and venues. If you already have your wedding date and venue, I recommend reaching out as soon as possible to secure availability.
-
Once you inquire, I will send over my wedding guide, pricing details, and available collections. From there, we can schedule a call to talk through your vision, timeline, and what coverage would fit your day best. If everything feels aligned, I will send over the contract and retainer invoice to officially reserve your date.
-
Your date is officially reserved once the signed contract and non-refundable retainer are received. Because I only take a limited number of weddings each year, I cannot hold dates without both.
-
Yes. This is a big part of what I help with. I guide my couples on lighting, timing, first look options, sunset portraits, family photo flow, and how to create a timeline that feels relaxed while still allowing space for beautiful images.
2. Wedding Timeline & Planning
-
.A first look is such a personal choice, and there is no wrong answer. If you want more couple portraits before the ceremony, a calmer timeline, and extra time together on the wedding day, a first look can be amazing. If you have always dreamed of seeing each other for the first time at the aisle, that can be incredibly emotional and beautiful too. I help each couple choose what feels best for them and their priorities.
-
The biggest benefit is usually time. A first look allows us to capture couple portraits, wedding party photos, and sometimes even family photos before the ceremony, which can make the rest of the day feel much more relaxed.
-
That is completely fine. We can absolutely build the timeline around a more traditional ceremony-first approach. In that case, I usually recommend making sure we leave enough time after the ceremony for portraits and that we pay close attention to the sunset timing.
-
The most beautiful light is usually early morning or the hour before sunset. For weddings, sunset is often my favorite time for romantic couple portraits because the light is soft, flattering, and dreamy. If your timeline allows, I always recommend stepping away for 10 to 20 minutes during golden hour.
-
Usually about 20 to 40 minutes total works beautifully, depending on your day and priorities. Sometimes we split this into two parts a little before the ceremony and a little at sunset which often gives the best variety and the most relaxed experience.
-
For immediate family only, around 15 to 20 minutes is usually enough if we have a photo list ready. For larger family combinations, I recommend 20 to 30 minutes.
-
Yes. I always recommend creating a simple, organized family photo list before the wedding so we can move efficiently and make sure no important combinations are missed.
-
This depends on your plans, guest count, locations, and whether you want getting ready, a first look, sunset portraits, and reception coverage. For most full weddings, 6 to 8 hours is common. For larger weddings or more complete storytelling, 8 to 10 hours often feels best.
-
I highly recommend it if you can. Engagement sessions are a wonderful way for us to work together before the wedding day and for you to get comfortable in front of the camera. It helps you feel more natural, more confident, and more relaxed by the time your wedding arrives.
-
Yes, absolutely. Beyond the photos themselves, they give us a chance to connect, learn what feels best for you, and create a more effortless experience on the wedding day. Many couples tell me afterward that it made such a difference.
-
Ideally, 2 to 6 months before the wedding is a great window. That gives you time to use the images for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or simply to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.
-
I always recommend outfits that feel true to you, photograph beautifully, and allow movement. Neutral tones, soft textures, and flowy fabrics tend to work especially well. I also love when couples dress in a way that feels elevated but still comfortable. I am happy to guide you on outfit choices.
-
Yes, and that is one of the biggest reasons I love them. Most couples are not used to being photographed, so this session helps you see how easy and natural it can feel.
